Battalion Chief City of Richland Fire and Emergency Services CITY OF RICHLAND, Washington, United States
Thriving in the 21st century Fire and EMS industry is not a myth; it is a reality for agencies anchored in a community-focused risk reduction culture. The key to this transition hinges upon executive leaders shifting their mindset to embrace a new paradigm; one that views risk reduction principles as a bedrock of their organizational culture, and willingness to see their entire department as an integrated risk reduction organization that prides itself on enhancing relevance and value to their community.
Integrated Risk Reduction moves the basic tenets of community risk reduction into a more holistic organizational structure and provides pathways for strategic partnerships and the organizational culture to recognizing and respond to the unprecedented change and enormous challenges associated with emergency mitigation, community engagement, recruitment and retention, and growth. Agencies that move to an IRR framework will be positioned not only respond to such challenges, but indeed thrive in this constantly changing environment.
The presentation will define elements of an IRR culture and the need for industry evolution towards the 21st Century Fire and Emergency Services model. Emphasis is placed on the necessary executive mindset needed to lead an organization founded in a CRR Culture and the interactive discussion will include successful methods used to integrate a CRR culture throughout the entire organization and the ability to capture the value of bringing it to life.
Throughout the presentation the audience will be asked to engage by answering questions and sharing their experiences relating to their organizational culture, the outcomes it currently produces and a shared vision for what the American Fire Service can become. The content of this presentation is intended to be a catalyst to generate new ideas to help move the needle in attendee’s own organizations.
