Fire Chief Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue Chatham, Ontario, Canada
The presentation will examine multi-agency approaches to specific concerns namely - illegal fireworks sale and use, attacks on firefighters, criminal use of explosives, arson and anti-social (nuisance) behaviour. This will demonstrated using operational case histories including the challenge, the engagement and the outcome - both succesful and not!. The entanglement of command structures, SOP's and legislation is a key aspect of the lessons learned and underpins the need to put success and outcomes first and a will to deal with a challenge above local needs. Following from this, the same processes will be illustrated in a more traditional community safety approach based around protecting vulnerable people in their homes and exploring community reduction processes including information sharing and an individual approach to individual vulnerabilities.
