GIS is a powerful tool in community risk reduction, not because GIS creates pretty maps but because visualized data tells stories, garners support, and drives decisions. This presentation will talk less about mapping tiny dots and more about using GIS to drive nearly everything in your community risk reduction efforts. We'll use live examples to tell stories of risk, show the tools available to collect and share information, and discuss how to involve community partners better.

GIS isn't about maps... it's a CRR practitioner's solution to storytelling, decision-making, and garnering support for strategic partnerships.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand that GIS isn't about maps but about data visualization and storytelling.
  • Participants will have a solid understanding of what steps they can take to move forward with expanding the use of GIS within their risk reduction efforts.
