Marlon Murphy has worked for almost 30 years as a government employee at the local level. He serves as Policy Advisor for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), leading the department's Equity Programs, Community Risk Reduction, and advises on strategic priorities for senior leadership. Before his current position with FRD, Marlon was a Policy Advisor in the Office of the County Executive for Fairfax County, Virginia, working to implement the One Fairfax policy/initiative. He served Fairfax in various capacities as an administrator with their Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, specifically developing policies and programs for families and youth involved with the court and experiencing vulnerabilities.
Marlon has a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector outside local government. He has served as a board member and officer in non-profits, where his efforts center on capacity building, sustainability, and impact at the community level. Marlon also serves as a Federal Government Consultant conducting system-wide analyses and strategic planning for states and territories.
Marlon is a Doctor of Philosophy candidate in Public Administration and Policy at Virginia Tech's Center for Public Administration and Policy. He holds a Master of Public Administration and Policy degree from Virginia Tech, a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Howard University, and a Certification in Process Management from George Mason University. He is an avid family man and the proud father of two sons.
