She has worked within the Public Services since 2018, starting with Greater Manchester Police and transitioning over to GMFRS in 2022.
Most of Emma's career has been striving to make positive changes for those most at risk and deemed vulnerable. She has co-created many interventions with Station Manager Pete FItzpatrick - including the Atlas Project (https://www.manchesterfire.gov.uk/education/atlas-programme/). The Atlas Project has taken its name from the Greek God “Atlas” - the God of strength, resilience, and endurance. The intervention has been developed in response to an identified need to provide a tailored intervention to adults who set or use fire to harm themselves, others, or property, threaten to use fire or use of incendiary devices. The Atlas Project has grown from strength to strength, winning Project of the Year, at the national award - Excellence in Fire and Emergency Awards 2023. It has also been highlighted as "Promising Practice" by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Service (https://hmicfrs.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/news/news-feed/greater-manchester-frs-praised-for-good-performance/).
Emma will be continuing her academic career, studying for a PhD from April 2024 centred around deliberate firesetting in the UK and US, focusing on different demographics, crimes commited and judicial sentencing. Further scope of hosting and collaborating The Atlas Project in the US is currently ongoing and would welcome any feedback and/or information to progress any opportunities.
