Fire Chief Tucson Fire Department Tucson, Arizona, United States
This session will focus on a fire department's holistic approach to CRR to improve the overall safety of the firefighters and the communities we serve. It is critical for a fire department to have someone who will champion local CRR efforts and activities and this begins in the Fire Chief's office. As the leader and face of the organization the Fire Chief must have a strong voice on the departments CRR activities, which includes empowering the organization to take a proactive versus reactive approach in all that they do to create a safer and more resilient community. In addition to the Fire Chief understanding CRR at a high level it is also imperative that the men and women responding to calls and serving the community understand CRR and how it can improve their overall safety, reduce call loads, and builds partnerships in the community. This approach requires stations to identify their stations respective risks by doing a risk assessment and working on station based projects that will mitigate the risks that have been identified. Fire departments today do an outstanding job at community outreach to include public education, home safety visits, and smoke alarm installation events, but many struggle with how to implement CRR at the station level. This presentation will give you perspective on CRR from the Fire Chief's office to the station and everything in between.
