Simone Cordery-Cotter is a communicator focused on stories about data, humans, and the environment. In her current role as a Fire Risk Reduction Specialist, she works to protect people, property, and the environment from wildfire through preparedness and prevention best practices. A key part of her role entails working with federal and local partners to build fire adapted communities in the Columbia River Gorge. Prior to coming to work for the Oregon State Fire Marshal, Simone worked for a Lake Tahoe non-profit to organize citizen groups and promote government accountability on rural climate adaptation issues. In 2019, she served as part of California Governor Gavin Newsom's Blue Ribbon task force on wildfire to develop the basis of a $536 million investment in communities at high risk of wildfire. Prior to her public service, Simone worked in marketing and public relations and was the North American Director of Public Relations of a global endurance sports brand. She holds two B.A.'s, one in Environmental History and another in Film and Photography from Montana State University. She completed her Master of Public Policy degree in 2022, and continues to be involved in local politics in her free time. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and two dogs.
